Glossary of Terms
 
Aikido: A Japanse martial art often confused with Hapkido due to it's similar name and origin. Aikido was developed as a non-violent method of defense stressing non-resistance, joint manipulation and study of Ki engergy.
 
An Yong Haseo: Welcome, a greeting.
 
An Yong Hasimnika: A welcome-student to teacher.
 
Cha Ryu: Attention.
 
Chi (Chinese): Internal Power.
 
Dan Bong: A short stick.
 
Dan Jun: Body center, believed to be a reservoir of energy.
 
Do: A way of life or method of study.
 
Do Bok (Korean): The traditional practice uniform.
 
Dojang (Korean): A school of practice hall.
 
Dul (Korean): The Number Two (2).
 
GI (Japanese): The traditional practice uniform.
 
Grandmaster Yong Shul Choi: The Founder of Hapkido.
 
Hana (Korean): The Number One (1)
 
Hapkido: The way of coordinated power. A well rounded, tactical Korean Martial Art which stresses non-resistance, circular motion, and strong kicking and striking techiniques.
 
Kamsa Homnida (Korean): Thank you.
 
Ki (Korean/Japanese): Engergy/Internal power.
 
Kyosanim: Assistant Instructor.
 
Kyun Yea: Bow.
 
Sabunim: A Master Instructor of the Korean martial arts.
 
Set (Korean): The Number Three (3).
 
Um Yang: The symbol which illustrates the indivisbility of opposing forces within nature (the central character on the South Korean flag).
 
Yin and Yang: The Chinese representation of the Um Yang.
